  • Root and Bone - Best Fried Chicken in NYC

    December 16, 2014

Time Out New York named its best 100 dishes in 2014 on December 10. root & bone's deep-fried chicken was named number one, "king of the coop: the ambitious flapper Top Chef alums Jeff McInnis and Janine Booth crisp up their Alphabet City spot. The Pennsylvania Amish country chicken is brined in sweet tea spiked with paprika and cayenne for 24 hours, giving it a distinct sweetness amplified by the dusting of dehydrated lemon powder the bird gets when it's pulled golden and crunchy from the pressure cooker. A drizzle of Tabasco honey happily keeps that salty-sweet tug-of-war going."

  • Get Out Your Corkscrew

    March 25, 2014

    Dear Member:

Last week I read this article in the New York Times from wine critic, Eric Asimov that in my mind presented an interesting opportunity for those interested in wine and food.  He is offering through his column an interactive wine class for the world.  If you did not read this article, I wanted to draw it to your attention.  I think it would be a fantastic opportunity if the members of The Society chose to participate on a monthly basis by buying, pairing with food, and drinking the wines that he suggests and then to communicate your opinions and preferences to him.

If you would like to copy your comments or responses to me and Rose, Rose will post them to the Blog on our Society website for all to enjoy and consider.  It could be a lot of fun!  In  Vino  Veritas.

  • Vice President Angela Grande Praises Nomad Dinner

    January 28, 2014

    Dear Greg,

At last evening’s dinner at Nomad with Chateau Smith Haut Lafitte, everyone that I spoke to said that they loved the event. And those that I observed as I gazed down the long, gorgeously appointed table were truly enjoying the festivities. Across the board, the food, wine, and friendship were wonderful. The evening reminded me of the elegant events that we used to have when I first joined 20 - 30 years ago. I think last night’s dinner was one of the best ever.

    Angela,

Thanks for your kind words. This event was work, but did not feel like work. The process was fun and the evening felt different. You know what the philosophy of our Society is, "bring together the right wine, food, and people" and you can experience a glorious evening. Last night, the passionate people, the exquisite cuisine, and the wonderful wine joined together in harmony. May this kind of music continue for this season and in future seasons. It was special to have Florence and Daniel Cathiard join us from Bordeaux as we experienced some of their finest wines.

    Warm regards,
    Greg
